And so this is Christmas

There’s been illness in the household. DC1 presented with a headache, then went to bed. The next day they were pretty much better but DC2 began their slide. Headache, snot and cough. The cough sometimes meaning they loose their voice, or it goes into a funny sound, so at least we get a bit of a laugh.

Christmas Day as usual, presents then cooking, big dinner and TV. We played a game. During it there are 2 teams of 2 and you are either red or blue. K seemed not to be able to remember which colour we were, but we got through it. He lay down twice during the day as his illness started to really take hold beyond the snot and headaches. For him it is also affecting strength and balance. During the night help was needed 4, or maybe 5 times, to get up for the loo. And to get properly back into bed.

His right side is always a bit weaker but this is much moreso. Whether it is part of the cold or some progression of the disease, I guess we will just find out. In the meantime I keep positive, advising rest and getting better, not worrying. I help with clothes and food like anyone would when someone is ill, and hope it isn’t how things will always be from now on.

Boxing Day was a bit similar. Family meetings don’t seem possible, although he thinks I should go ahead I’m worried he might fall or not be able to get up.

The next day I call to get some medical advice. My brother has worried me with the mention of a stroke, but I’ve looked it up and don’t think so – he can lift his arms and face is fine.

This time of year is bad for me. I lost my mum at new year when she was visiting us. I should have been better, took more care of her. It is on my mind.
